Winter's Renewal

Winter is that magical time when nature decides to hit the reset button, and our bodies are like, “Wait, what? I thought we were hibernating!” Here I am, lounging on the couch while it’s pouring rain outside like Mother Nature is auditioning for a role in a dramatic soap opera. And can you believe it’s a balmy 70 degrees in January? I half-expect to see beach towels and sunscreen being sold alongside the snow shovels! Sure, we’re supposed to be bundled up in snow gear, but I just know that by tomorrow, the rain will transform into snow, and we’ll finally feel like we’re in a winter wonderland instead of a tropical paradise gone rogue. Now, I get it—winter can be tough with its shorter days and temperatures that make you question your life choices. But here at the ranch, it’s the perfect excuse to catch up on some much-needed rest while the ministry is closed for the season. Honestly, it’s like a mini-vacation where the only thing on the agenda is binge-watching shows and pretending that “building fence” is a new work out trend. You see, ranchers have this weird relationship with nice weather. It’s like when the sun comes out, we suddenly feel the urge to “make hay” or tackle every project on our to-do list—because who doesn’t want to fix things in the middle of a heatwave? But let’s be real, our bodies are practically begging for a break, and we often ignore their pleas like they’re the well-meaning friend who keeps suggesting a group outing. So, my grand plan for this year? I’m declaring a personal Sabbath! That’s right, not just for my physical health but for my mental sanity too. With the weather doing its best impersonation of a mood ring, remember to carve out some downtime for yourself. After all, even God took a day off—so who are we to argue with divine wisdom? Now, if only I could convince my couch to stop being so comfy…
